Benefits of Family Yoga
Our children live in a hurry-up world of busy parents, school pressures, incessant lessons, video games, malls, and competitive sports. We usually don't think of these influences as stressful for our kids, but often they are.
- Marsha Wenig, Yoga Journal
Kids derive many of the same benefits of yoga as adults: increased body awareness, strength and flexibility, as well as stress relief and relaxation. As children figure out their place in our world, yoga classes encourage self-acceptance, compassion, kindness, and discipline while celebrating creative expression, individual differences, and community.
Family yoga classes are an opportunity to chuck the to-do list and simply enjoy each other and moving in our bodies. Activities include age-appropriate poses, breathing exercises, relaxation, partner poses between parent and child, and cooperative games.
Registration is by session. Children, even more than adults, benefit from consistancy and often take a few classes to feel comfortable in a space, with a teacher, and with other students. Classes are progressive, meaning we build on skills learned from week to week. While drop-ins are welcome per studio policy when space allows, full-session registration is strongly suggested.
Class Descriptions
This class is for families with children from 4 to 10 years old. Family yoga classes are structured like kids yoga classes with emphasis on interactive and partner poses for kids and adults to do together. We'll do age-appropriate yoga poses, breathing, movement games, and relaxation. No yoga experience required.
Poses and games in this class are most appropriate for children ages 5-12, but younger siblings are welcome.
